Quaywatch started when it became apparent that people on
The Quays, Salford Quays and Trafford Quays were
suffering from lack of policing, interest or control over
Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB).
Since its inception - matters have improved year on year. Police
Patrols are visible and there is an air of new found optimism.

ASB - a cover all name for public disorder, violence, damage and drunkenness. In fairness this is not restricted to The Quays, it is very common in many UK Towns and Cities.

Dispersal Order Issued. These are in force from 1 June 2008 until 1 November 2008 -
Third
Year Running. Hopefully this will help prevent anti social gangs and
associated behaviour.
Great Manchester Police and Salford City Council are thanked for this initiative along with others
involved.
It makes a big difference on Salford Quays.
But for an area that is openly attracting visitors, people and
businesses, steps need to be taken to control and monitor it.

Salford City Council are signed up to:
Keep up the relentless action to tackle anti-social behaviour by
using the full range of tools and powers available.
The area proclaimed as 'Salford Quays' is one that is sterile with
no home grown ASBOS. A clear board on which to exhibit such
relentless action.
Hazel Blears, the Member of Parliament for this area said,
"I
want the decent majority to be able to take control of their
neighbourhood and community. I want to return public streets, parks
and shopping centres to the families, pensioners and young people
who want to go about their lives free from intimidation."

With the impending arrival of the BBC on Salford Quays - the first
interested Staff member of the BBC taking a photograph of the area,
ends up being punched in the face. There does not need to be a
reason.

else, who intimidate people living in the area, often fuelled by
alcohol "

While the buildings are protected and hence the people in them. When
moving around outside - there is no CCTV - in an area designed to
attract many visitors.

safety and security addressed. There is a failure to maintain street
signs and infrastructure - so how well does the future bode?
The Lowry Theatre Complex, Lowry Outlet Mall, Vue Multiplex Cinema,
Bars and Restaurants, Hotels, Offices , all receive regular
visitors.
Not forgetting the increasing population of Apartment dwellers and
the many thousands who work on The Quays.
