The Quays - Salford - Trafford - Manchester

WELCOME

Quaywatch started when it became apparent that people on The Quays, Salford Quays and Trafford Quays were suffering from lack of policing, interest or control over Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB).

Since its inception - matters have improved year on year. Police Patrols are visible and there is an air of new found optimism.

ASB - a cover all name for public disorder, violence, damage and  drunkenness. In fairness this is not restricted to The Quays, it is very common in many UK Towns and Cities.

NEWS: Dispersal Order Issued. These are in force from 1 June 2008 until 1 November 2008 - Third Year Running. Hopefully this will help prevent anti social gangs and associated behaviour.

Great Manchester Police and Salford City Council are thanked for this initiative along with others involved.

It makes a big difference on Salford Quays.

But for an area that is openly attracting visitors, people and businesses, steps need to be taken to control and monitor it.

Will Respect Areas announced be another gimmick - all smoke and mirrors? The normal - all talk - little action?

Salford City Council are signed up to:

Keep up the relentless action to tackle anti-social behaviour by using the full range of tools and powers available.

The area proclaimed as 'Salford Quays' is one that is sterile with no home grown ASBOS. A clear board on which to exhibit such relentless action.

Hazel Blears, the Member of Parliament for this area said,

"
I want the decent majority to be able to take control of their neighbourhood and community. I want to return public streets, parks and shopping centres to the families, pensioners and young people who want to go about their lives free from intimidation."

mediacity:uk, Salford Quays and Trafford Quays must have public safety and security addressed. There is a failure to maintain street signs and infrastructure  - so how well does the future bode?

" There are gangs of feral youths who are under no control from adults, parents or anyone else, who intimidate people living in the area, often fuelled by alcohol "

Chief Supt David Baines - Salford
